Curtains add style to a room that needs a touch of class. This Reno home had cellular, or honeycomb shades on this window. They needed two separate things for the window: Room Darkening and a Bump in Style. This custom curtain was able to provide both things.
There were a number of things to consider on this job. We spent a lot of time selecting this fabric. They originally wanted a solid, but we opted for the pattern you see in the video. The mid-century feel they wanted for the room carried through to the curtains. There is a definite pattern, but the colors are subtle. Kind of a tone on tone look. As a result, they get a curtain or drapery that adds some pizzazz to the room.
The second consideration was the top treatment. Originally, we had considered using a decorative rod, but for two reasons we selected the wood cornice. First, they needed more room darkening. A cornice or valance tends to block more light that would normally filter over the top of the curtains. The second reason is that decorative drapery rods can be substantially more expensive than some valances.
There are many considerations that go into picking the perfect window treatments or curtains for your home. Recently, I had a client tell me that we had looked through a ton of fabric books and when the “right:” fabric appeared, he knew it was “the ONE”. It takes time to find just the right combination of materials for the perfect window treatment solution. We are happy to do that for our clients.
