Sonnette Shades
Roller shades are very popular in Reno and Tahoe, but sometimes people are concerned that they are losing insulation in their homes. Due to this desire to create even more hybrid window coverings, Hunter Douglas has created the Sonnette Shade. Please watch the video to see how it operates.
As you were able to see, the Sonnette Shade is taking the best of two product lines and bringing them together. The obvious functionality of the shade is that it rolls up and down, like a roller shade. Well, it is a roller shade, but when you saw the side view of the Sonnette, you notice cells, like a honeycomb shade.
Roller Shades That Insulate
Due to the design of the Sonnette shade, it provides significantly more insulation than a standard roller shade. There are no R-Values currently available from Hunter Douglas on their products, but a roller shade insulates at a value of about 1 and a single honeycomb shade rates about 3. Based on this assumption, the Sonnette Shade will insulate about 3 times better than a roller shade.
Because the Sonnette is a roller shade in it’s contruction, it has limitations. It only rolls down from the top, so top down / bottom up is not an option at this point. The other factor that you may not even consider is that the shades are what we call front roll. This means that the material rolls over the top of the tube as opposed to the down the back of the roll. So, positioning is a factor. This may not be a great choice for french doors because the shade comes down more than 2 inches forward of the back of the headrail. The potential for interference from the handle is very high, so use caution.
Overall, know that this new product is out there and might be a perfect solution for you.
