Solera Window Shades
When purchasing large window coverings, there are many things to consider. Take this window as an example. It measures about 120 inches across and 60 inches top to bottom. The client originally wanted roman shades, but they also wanted them to be motorized. We easily could have added a corded motor to the shade, but that would have been unsightly. That severely limited our choices.
There are many honeycomb, or cellular shades that would have worked for this size. The available pleat sizes were not satisfactory to the Reno client, so we needed an alternative. The Solera Shade from Hunter Douglas was the perfect choice. Even so, this window proved to have some sticking points.
- Some Solera fabrics are heavier than others, so we had to find a fabric that would fit the specs.
- Due to the weight, Hunter Douglas provides a double motor system.
- I chose to suggest the addition of the “C battery pack”. (See in video) This will provide longer intervals in between battery changes.
The client is very happy with the Solera Shades from Hunter Douglas. They have very large pleats and are made of various beautiful fabrics. The addition of the PowerView motorization simplifies their use as well.
