Safety Updates for Window Covering Cords
We posted a video about 8 months ago about things that were potentially happening in the window coverings industry. The primary focus of the post and video was the CPSC ( Consumer Product Safety Commission ) and what their goals were for providing safety guidelines for the window covering industry. Here is the video we posted back then. The reality is that all the things we discussed are spot on. You can watch this video, but we made a new video which is posted on this blog just below the first video.
We are very concerned about how this will face the industry. The more regulations there are, the harder it is for certain companies to live up to the requirements. I certainly hope that both the large and the small fabrication companies will have the ability to make the adjustments that are required. Here are some of the things to be aware of.

If you wish to read more about the CPSC ruling, you can click the above link. One of the fascinating things about the link is reading the commentary of the board of directors. The point that stood out to me was that they accused the window coverings industry of rejecting their requests for more safety and not being aggressive enough in taking steps to provide safety.
I have no way to address this for the industry as a whole, but I can speak to it from my personal perspective. We have eliminated what we felt was unsafe since January 2014. The manufacturers that we use have also been very proactive in removing what is unsafe. These new regulations will set a very high limit as to what is now acceptable. It will be a challenge for the manufacturing aspect of the industry to eliminate certain things which have been a standard for a long time.
This is very big news and I’m curious how it will all play out.
