Do You Need to Replace a Motor?
This video will show you how to replace a motor. It is done to a roller shade in a very basic style. It is roller only. There is no top treatment, like a cassette. If you had a cassette, it would add additional steps, but the overall structure of what is shown here is the same. The other caveat that I lay out in the video is that we are using the Alpha Tubular Motors system. There are other companies that have a very similar motor system, like Somfy Motors and Rollease Motors. The physical replacement of the motor is identical, but the programming is a bit different.
Be Aware of Differences
This video was done to show the principle of replacing a motor, but your shades might have little differences that might cause complications. I will give you an example.
If you look at the picture to the side, you will see two brackets, two screws, one black adapter and one idle end insert. These are the parts that attach to the metal roller shade tube that hold the shade and motor at the top of the window. In the video, you can’t see how I take apart the roll from the bracket, but this adapter picture shows you how each part with black inserts into the bracket system next to it.
The reason I am expressing that there are differences is that your bracket system might be completely different. There are many different types of systems. Even companies like Rollease, who are providers of all kinds of brackets and accessories, make many different types of brackets. So, again, yours may be different, but in the end, use common sense and you will figure out how to take down and replace a motor in your roller shades.
Do it Yourself? Or Hire a Pro?
The other option that you may consider is to hire a professional to do the work for you. I remember that I used to buy auto repair books in the past. I remember the book Chilton. I would look at the book in detail to see what was involved in fixing my vehicle. Then, I realized that I didn’t have the parts that were needed, nor the patience and ability to do what was needed. So, the book helped me to see that I was better off hiring a mechanic. Same point may apply to you in this case. Either way, I hope that this video and blog help you to get your motor replaced in your roller shade.
