You Can Do Shades With Cornices For Doors
It used to be that people only wanted to do vertical type products for sliding doors or patio sliders. Things have really changed recently. We have been doing a lot of shades for large openings like these. In this case we did roller shades with cornice boxes. This is a very wide opening and they wanted a very simple and clean look. You will notice the shade is a very soft color and all the punch comes from the cornice.
About The Choices Of Materials
We had two choices for the materials. First the shades, then the cornice. When you look at the photo below, you will see how the material of the roller shades is a very soft color choice. We worked with the client to determine what their goal was. In this case, the shades were all about light control. They did not feel like privacy was an issue at all. If they were worried about people peaking inside their space, we would have made different choices.
In this case, we selected a room darkening fabric with a very subtle pattern that blends nicely with the wall and flooring colors. Had we done shades only, we might have suggested that the client choose a fabric with a little more impact. But, since we designed the cornice boxes as well, we were able to add the color and style to the room in a very balanced way.
Top Treatments Important For Roller Shades
Before I explain this, I need to say that there are times that doing roller shades with no cornice box, valance or top treatment is very appropriate. In this case however, with the style that this client has in their home, we needed to help them get the look that was best for their window treatments.
Take a look at the roller shades mounted to the wall in the attached picture. That look would not have been complimentary to the look that this client desired. When you look at the fabric in the above picture, you can see how it adds some fun colors and pattern to the room without being over the top, which is exactly what this client wanted for their Bedroom roller shades with cornice boxes.
