Roller Shades With Rechargeable Batteries
When learning about roller shade tech, you want to make sure that you have the latest information. Please keep in mind that this was written in August of 2o21 and things may have changed since then. Roller shades are one of the hottest trends and Motorization is becoming more and more standard. But Roller Shade Tech is important to choose. What is the definition of the term “Roller Shade Tech”?
Here it is talking about how the shade moves up and down. There are a lot of mechanisms that can raise and lower your roller shades, but today we are talking about the battery powered technology. Please remember that there are other manual ways to lift shades, like chain loops or cordless operation systems. When it comes to automation or motorized systems, there are many different options, but here is the trend.
Motorized Roller Shades
When you add roller shade tech to your window coverings you need to determine the best choice. If you are building your home or doing a complete remodel, then please contact us so we can show you hardwire options. But most people are adding their window treatments to a home that they don’t want to tear up. So, they choose battery operated options.
This is the main point for this blog. The new technology for roller shades is using lithium-ion batteries to lift and lower their roller shades. There are a lot of manners in which to do this, but I’ve noticed that the best solution is being done by a number of companies that I work with. The motors are inserted INSIDE the roller shade tube which allows the power mechanism AND the battery to all be hidden away. They are also available in many different size motors. The premium motor products are listed by strength in the use of Newton-metres (Nm). The range of current motor power ranges from 1.1 Nm to 10 Nm.
What Size Nm Should I Use?
What do those Nm ranges mean for you? Huge power is available for roller shade tech. Keep in mind that these motors can be used for other lifting purposes too, like roman shades. Here is the range of the 1.1 Nm shades using a typical roller shade material. The 1.1 Nm motor can lift a roller shade that is about 8 feet wide by 8 feet tall. A 10 Nm motor can lift a shade that is roughly 14 feet wide by 14 feet tall.
Please consider this as well. The stronger the motor, the quieter it tends to be. If you use the motor at it’s maximum power, like using a 1.1 Nm to lift an 8’x8’ window, it’s going to be straining at times to lift it, so it tends to make more noise. If you choose a motor where it kind of in the middle of its range of power, then it does so effortlessly with less decibel volume. For a window of this size, I’d suggest a 2.0 or 3.0 Nm motor.
One of the things that I mentioned in the video was that based on the fact that the battery is inside the tube, it allows us to place the shade deeper in the window because we don’t need a battery pack behind the shade. This is critical to the design portion of our work, because we want to make sure that the look of your roller shades is equal to the function of them. When you put all these factors together, you end up being very happy with the overall choices you make. Please remember that this conversation is very generic. When we meet with you, we will go over every option to make sure that you understand and are making the correct choices for your window coverings.
