Roller Shade Motors
Motorized roller shades have become incredibly popular. When you are choosing your roller shades, you have to choose your roller shade motors as well. For example, just off the top of my head, I have 5 different brands of roller shade motors available for roller shades in our market.
Which one should you choose? Wow, so many options. It depends on so many different factors.
- The size of the shade.
- Volume of the sound from the motor
- If you are using an integration system
- Will you have room for Battery Packs
- Are you hard-wiring?
- And a thousand more
Rechargeable vs. Battery Pack Roller Shade Motors
This is a kind of a difficult discussion to have on a blog because in a real world scenario, the choices become obvious. So I will discuss our choices on this job. This client had ordered Somfy motors for a job in this home about 10 years ago. Those shades have battery packs and therefore they are familiar with what is involved in changing them.
So, when given an option of staying with the same motor system, Somfy, they wanted to do this. They were familiar with its use and this would make life easier for them. They wanted to switch to the Sonesse 30, Lithium Ion internal battery pack. Here is why.
They had limited depth to mount the window coverings. So, these roller shade motors were a good choice because they don’t require a battery pack to try to fit into the window space. Also, this battery operated unit is significantly quieter than the Somfy ones using an external battery pack. Because they are in a bathroom with hard surfaces, the quiet motors make more sense.
For this case, it was an easy choice, but if we were starting from scratch, we may have gone in a completely different direction. We pride ourselves in helping our clients make the right decisions, including selecting roller shade motors.
