Custom Curtains
If you are doing custom curtains in your home, there are a lot of things to think about. The attached video shows one factor that can come up. Please watch the short video and see how projection is a critical component in the design of custom draperies.
So often, when talking about the design of custom curtains or drapes, a lot of time can be spent on the fabrics. This is the case because fabrics are going to make that room have the look you crave. But, sometimes people don’t spend enough time talking about the custom drapery rods that hold up the panels.
Custom Curtains and Their Rods
Think for a moment about all the variables that enter the equation.
- Color
- Thickness
- Shape
- Finials
- Brackets
Let’s focus on the video’s theme. The brackets needed to be projected off of the wall enough to allow the Hunter Douglas Silhouette shade mounted below it to not interfere with the functionality of the drapery. Mentally imagine the top of the rod being 3” back toward the wall. The panels would not hold their proper pleating. They would rub on the shade below it causing friction damage. There would be a weird shape in the fall of the panels.
All of these things show how important it is to consider all of the factors which will influence the choices you make in custom curtains.
