Top Down / Bottom Up Shades are incredibly popular in window coverings these days. They don’t work for every situation, but when they are appropriate, they are fantastic window treatments. Please watch the video which discusses some of the details of top down / bottom up shades.
Top Down / Bottom Up Caveat
Overall, this type of shading is great for many windows. We tend to install them for our clients in the Reno and Lake Tahoe region in privacy areas. So, for example, we place them in bathrooms, bedrooms or common areas where privacy is desired.
Here is where I help people avoid making a mistake in ordering their shades. Take a look at the photo in the blog. You’ll notice that the place across the street is a one-story. If it were a two-story home, and the middle rail was partially down, the neighbors would be able to see inside your house. Oops. That would definitely be an issue.
So, forethought is important when purchasing any type of window covering or curtain, including top down / bottom up shades. A little consultation as part of the process will help you avoid errors that will either cost you money or cost you peace of mind. A good designer will make sure you make the right choices in the first place.
