Afternoon Sun is Damaging
Here is a test. Take a look at your floors near your south or west facing windows. If you have an area rug there, lift the corner and see if the color is different under the rug than where the sun hits. Also, take a look at your upholstered furniture. Has it faded?
If you live in Reno or Lake Tahoe, you are dealing with some very intense UV light. Based on our elevations here as well as our latitude, the damaging rays of the sun have been documented as some of the worst in the world.
So, how do we handle this?
Solar Screen Shades for Afternoon Sun
In this Lake Tahoe area home, we installed a 4% screen shade. This means that only about 4% of the damaging afternoon sun actually reaches the interior of the home. As a result, it makes life more comfortable inside the home.
By using the Favorite’s Positing on the Hunter Douglas PowerView remote control, one press of the Heart button takes the shade to the best position to knock down the glare of the sun, while still allowing light into the space.
Most Lake Tahoe homes that we see have great heaters, but many of them don’t have air conditioning units. By using a good solar screen shade, you can keep the temperature regulated to whatever is comfortable for you.
