Roller Shades on a door? I’m breaking my own rules on this job. Which proves the point that rules are made to be broken. Which rule? Typically, we choose products for doors that follow the rule of a vertical application for a sliding door. There are a number of products that are made for vertical applications.
- Vertical Blinds
- Panel Track Systems
- Vertical Shadings, like the Hunter Douglas Luminette
- Vertical Honeycomb shades
- Draperies
But, on this job we kind of broke the rules a bit. We based this decision on the needs of the client. There were a few factors involved. She wanted a view, but the morning sun was blazing into the space, heating up the room. This made it very uncomfortable for her. Because she is the primary user of the window treatments, the fact that the shades roll to the top doesn’t bother her.
Clearly, the look is very different, but more important than the look is the function. Now the client has the view and the shading from the roller shades. She is very happy with the overall result.
The blog that deals with the skylight shades will be written soon.
