Changing Hunter Douglas PowerView batteries is about the only maintenance that you need to do on your shades or blinds. Batteries do wear out and you need to remove the old batteries first. After inspecting the battery wand for any corrosion, you can put the new batteries in.
Changing Hunter Douglas PowerView Batteries
Please watch the video to see the technique used. How you insert the batteries is very important. It is a very bad idea to drop the batteries into a vertically positioned battery wand. Notice how the battery wand is positioned horizontally and the batteries are pushed, rather than, dropped into the tube. Why? Because corrosion in the tube comes from damaged batteries. What is the easiest way to damage a battery? Dropping it on its top or bottom. This is called “crushing” and it is bad for the battery.
The next thing to be aware of is the correct positioning of the batteries. Thankfully, Hunter Douglas puts a schematic on their tubes to make it easy. Because their new battery wands have a clear viewing window, you can check the alignment. Try not to get distracted while inserting the batteries. You can tell how easy it is to get it wrong when watching the video. Twice, I had to remove and invert the battery direction because I was trying to talk and work simultaneously. So, pay attention.
If you want to avoid changing batteries, then consider going with a wired solution. You can see an example here.
