This post deals with window coverings that are mounted in a window that has tile up the sides of the window. As with most of our posts, we are showing a specific design element that may apply to your needs. There are so many ways to do them and each one depends on the product we are using.
In the case of this Reno client, we were using the Solera Shade, by Hunter Douglas. It is a beautiful product, but it doesn’t allow for “Tile Cut Outs”. What is a tile cut out? It is where a bottom rail on a shade or blind is cut narrower than the shade or blind width. This allows us to keep tight tolerances in the amount of light gap at the sides of the windows.
When we are unable to notch the sides of the shades for the intrusion of tile or mouldings, we have to take other means. The Reno client had tile at the bottom of the window, but it wasn’t a thick type. Because we took all these things into consideration, the choice was clear. We chose to make the bottom rail just narrow enough to clear the tile.
On another job that we completed recently, the homeowner called us before the tile was installed, so the application would be perfect. And it was. We always suggest that you consult with us prior to construction to avoid potential problems.
