Often times Kempler Design customers want a patio door window covering on their patio door or sliding doors. We show them different options, but like all our consultations, we suggest solutions based on specifics. In this circumstance there are some factors which helped the customer to make a good choice.
- Their old vertical blinds were falling apart, which was the biggest motivator.
- The vertical blinds were allowing too much light in, which affects the television viewing.
- The client wanted something that stacked back as much as possible.
- The insulation factor had to be considered, due to the size of the patio door window covering.
The solutions are as follows.
- New window coverings fix this problem simply
- This client chose an opaque, or blackout, fabric. It allows in NO light through the fabric.
- The stack on this shade is about 12″, which is pretty great for a patio door window covering that is 130″. We are working with the manufacturer to reduce the stack even more. Some patio door vertical honeycombs will stack in less than 7″
- Vertical blinds have a very low insulation factor. Honeycomb or cellular shades have a factor that is about 4 times greater than that of vertical blinds.
So, is there a down side? If you have a very limited budget, Patio Door cellular shades can be a stretch. I can’t disclose the costs of this shade due to the privacy of our client, but it is definitely more expensive. The most important thing to learn from this: There are many factors when choosing your window treatments. A qualified professional will help you make choices that will make you smile for many years.
