Solar Screen shades are very popular on the west coast. Reno and Tahoe are no exceptions. People choose them because they are minimalist in style and they are functional in certain ways. They are great at allowing a view, while providing some installation and light control. But what sometimes is forgotten is that screen material can be used for more choices than just roller shades. here is a list of different products that you can do with screen fabrics.
- Roller Shades (The most popular choice)
- Roman Shades (As in the attached video)
- Vertical Blinds
- Sheer Shadings, like the Silhouette Shade with Screens attached
- Stationary Frames- For interior or exterior shades
I have done quite a few of the roman shade style in screen shades for clients over the years. The reason that they tend to like them is because they add an architectural style to the window covering. They also add the look of a valance at the top of the window, to dress it up even when the shade is not covering the window. The negative is that there is a greater stack at the top of the window if you are trying to eliminate blockages of your view.
The costs of doing a roman shade style solar screen is higher than typical roller shades, but is still doable for most clients. If you want them motorized, roman shades use a much larger motor typically, and they need to be plugged into a power source as opposed to roller shades which can be battery operated.
