The Platinum Application by Hunter Douglas is an amazing way to control your window coverings. You can do so many amazing things with the app that it is a huge trend-setter and I predict that it will be the thing that brings motorization into the mainstream. While it is a great product, I wanted to point out one minor deficiency. Pictured to the left is the repeater unit. The entire assembly of the “bridge kit” consists of a Bridge, which is a pathway between your shades and your computer router, the… on second thought, I’ll leave the technical details for another time. The main point I want to share is that when you are dealing with radio frequencies to control your shades, you are guaranteed that they will never work perfectly every time.
In the last week, I installed two Platinum Bridge Radio controlled window covering systems. Both of them had some minor issues to be resolved. Both of the solutions involved that repeater that is pictured. All you need to do is place it in an outlet in the room you are controlling, but what I noticed was that you might have to try different outlets to find one that allows the radio signal to travel unencumbered to the receivers in the shades. It’s a minor thing, but if you have a Platinum App with difficulties, try moving the repeater to a different outlet.
